Abstract

El presente artículo tiene por finalidad analizar y comentar el caso de Petronila Neira desde una perspectiva histórica y a la luz de una nueva categoría conceptual como es el femicidio, entendido éste como la expresión más extrema de la violencia contra las mujeres y definido como todo aquel crimen cometido por hombres contra mujeres “por razones de género”. Este caso resulta paradigmático en tanto contiene todos los elementos policiales y sociológicos, que han acompañado el proceso de naturalización de los femicidios en nuestro país. Ad portas de celebrar el bicentenario de la República resulta paradójico que a cien años de cometido el crimen de Petronila Neira las razones que se arguyen hoy para justificar los crímenes contra mujeres sean, en rigor, las mismas: celos, venganza, exceso de alcohol, entre otras. Sin embargo, un análisis más profundo y complejo da cuenta de relaciones de pareja que se construyen sobre la base de desigualdades estructurales entre hombres y mujeres, así como de contextos preferentemente caracterizados por una alta vulnerabilidad económica y cultural.This article aims to analyze and comment on the case of Petronila Neira from an historical perspective, in light of a new conceptual category defined as ‘femicide’, understood as the most extreme expression of violence against women and defined as any crime committed by men against women “for gender reasons”. This case is paradigmatic as it contains all the police and sociological elements that have accompanied the process of naturalization of femicide in our country. On the verge of celebrating the bicentennial of the Republic, it becomes paradoxical that the reasons argued today to justify crimes against women are, in fact, very similar to those by which the crime of Petronila Neira was justified one hundred years ago: jealousy, revenge, excess alcohol, among others. However, a closer, complex analysis conducted today also shows partner relationships that are built based on structural inequalities between men and women, and contexts characterized by high economic and cultural vulnerability.Key Words: femicide, violence against women, structural inequalities
