Social representations about empathy: an experience with teachers in Veracruz, Mexico

Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the theoretical-methodological aspects regarding social representations about empathy in primary education, from the perspective of the teaching practice of teachers. The methodology that was processed was qualitative, with a phenomenological approach. The instruments used to collect the information were the observation script and the semi-structured interview. For these reasons , it was decided to investigate some findings that, with empirical evidence, would reveal aspects about the representation that teachers have in relation to empathy in the setting of their teaching practice; as an answer to the research question: What are the social representations about empathy in primary education, from the point of view of the teaching practice of teachers? Globally, among the results, the idea that the teaching group has in relation to empathy stands out, where it is seen as part of the emotions and leads to understand the situations that the other person goes through.
