Abstract

This article to present the main results of the first national survey on gynecological violence in Chile and to relate the reports of psychological, physical and sexual violence with the impact on the perception of the body, sexuality and of themselves (self-image and self-esteem) that such violence could cause. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The Sample was composed of 4563 women from all regions of Chile. The results indicate a high report of violence in gynecological health care (67%). This violence occurs more frequently, in people who belong to original ethnic groups, Afro-descendant, lesbians, who are older and have a lower level educational. A high impact of violence on self-image, self-esteem, body perception and sexuality is observed, which allows us to begin to understand the serious effects that gynecological violence has on the lives of those who experience it.
