Abstract
Se sabe que en períodos de catástrofe lo que más se requiere es información veraz y oportuna; puesto que frente a la incertidumbre y el silencio se gatilla en las personas la necesidad no sólo de saber sobre lo que ha sucedido, sino que también las consecuencias y evolución del acontecimiento. El siguiente ensayo es realizado en el marco del Magister de Desarrollo Humano Local y Regional de la Universidad de la Frontera y recoge la tesis que formula Miquel Rodrigo en “La Construcción de la Noticia” (2003), al afirmar que las noticias son la fuente principal para definir la realidad social en el mundo moderno. De ahí la importancia que tendrían los medios de comunicación en la construcción de los sentidos y significado que otorgan las personas a los acontecimientos. En este contexto, se analiza el rol que jugó la radio en la difusión del denominado fenómeno de las ‘turbas invisibles’ que a 72 horas de sucedido el megasismo transformó a la ciudad de Concepción y comunas aledañas en un territorio cubierto por barricadas, piquetes de vecinos organizados, y autoridades desesperadas ante la inminencia de enfrentamientos entre barrios de la ciudad.
It is relatively known that at times of disaster what is needed the most is having accurate and timely information, since in light of uncertainty and silence, individuals have the need to know not only about what actually happened, but also the consequences and evolution of the event. This essay was written in the context the Master of Local and Regional Human Development at the University of La Frontera and gathers the thesis of Miquel Rodrigo who states that “news are the main source to define the social reality in the modern world”. That is the importance that media has in the building of our senses and meaning that people give to the events. In this context, we present an analysis about the role played by radio stations in the diffusion of the so-called phenomenon of “invisible crowds” that 72 hours after the earthquake turned Concepción and its surroundings in a place covered by barricades, squads of neighbors and desperate authorities frightened by imminent violence and confrontation among neighborhoods in the city.
