Intervention of foster family programs in times of pandemic: the perspective of professional teams from the Los Lagos and Los Ríos regions, Chile

Main Article Content

Abstract

The measures taken to address COVID-19 have created unprecedented challenges for child protection programs. The goal of this study was to examine the adaptation of foster care programs to the context of a pandemic in two regions of Chile, showing emerging problems and measures taken. Under a qualitative design approach, with an exploratory cross-sectional design, semi-structured interviews and SWOT analysis were developed in four teams of foster care programs. The results demonstrate significant transformations in the intervention strategies, highlighting the use of telematic modality; on the other hand, professional teams identify difficulties such as lack of self-care and loss of privacy in interventions. The findings reveal a high capacity for adaptation in professional teams, however, regarding the impact of the intervention under the implemented modality, further studies are required.
